Body piercing is a part of history and culture. And there have been traditions of
body puncturing since ancient times. People have been piercing their bodies for
various reasons and if in the ancient world there were mostly religious and symbolic,

There are different typed of body these days and any person can find something
perfectly matching his/her style of clothes and life. Some piercing types are more

in the mirror. Oral piercings are quite common nowadays and there are different
types of them. If you are going in for oral piercing, you should know some information
of aftercare and other things.
Tongue piercing is done from under the tongue and goes vertically through it exiting
from the surface on top. There lots of blood pumping in the tongue and the piercer
should make sure not to pierce in an arterial veins. Tongue piercing jewelry is
a fashion statement these days and most teens go for it. Tongue vibrating barbells
are the hit.
Frenulum piercing is done in the frenulum from underneath the tongue. It is rather
rare piercing but it looks great. The healing time for tongue piercings is about
4 to 12 weeks.
Lip piercings can be done on the lower or upper lips on either side. There are
several variations of lip piercing and the choice depends on you but it's better
to discuss it with your piercer beforehand. Small hoops and barbells are the common lip piercing jewelry. Snake bites is the piercing consisting of two punctures on
the bottom lips. Monroe piercing (Madonna piercing) is the piercing of the upper
lip reminding the beauty mark. Labrets are the most used jewelry for Monroe and
other lip piercings. 4 to 12 weeks is approximate healing time for lip piercings.
Dimple or cheek piercing can be done in different places of the cheek depending
on individual characteristics of the face. Gemstone or plain barbells are usually
worn. And it requires 4 weeks to 3 months to heal.
Medusa piercing is done in the centre of the dip underneath the nose. Labret is
common choice for this piercing and the time of healing is about 5 to 12 weeks.
Frowny piercing (lower fraenum piercing) is done in the membrane that connects
the lower gum and the lower lip. Micro jewelry such as straight barbells or captive bead rings are used for the frowny piercing that takes about 4 to 12 weeks
to heal.
Smiley piercing (superior fraenum piercing) is done in the membrane that connects
the upper gum with the upper lip. The healing time and the jewelry are the same
as with frowny piercing.
Uvula piercing is done in the tissue hanging down in the back of the mouth. It
takes about 3 to 8 weeks to heal and the recommended jewelry is small captive bead
rings.
During healing time of oral piercings you should rinse the mouth with antibacterial
mouthwash and avoid touching the jewelry. To reduce the risk of infection, you
may regularly use saline solutions. Your hands should be clean before you clean
the piercing with a cotton swab and warm water. Avoid oral sexual activities (including
kissing) for the healing period and fir the first few weeks you should refuse smoking
and drinking alcohol. And you should wait until the initial stage of healing is
over to change the jewelry. And it takes at least 8 weeks.
