Inner labia piercings take around 4 to 6 weeks to heal completely. The size of the labia in different people is different. A labia that has a thickness of at least 1/8 inch can support the jewelry appropriately. In some people, thin folds are observed. However, piercing should not done through these folds. Sometimes, the inner labia extends from the outer labia, in which case the piercing should be done in such a way that the ring does not pull the edges of the outer labia. Piercings of the inner labia can get stretched easily. Captive bead rings having a gauge of 10 to 14 and a diameter of 7/16 to 5/8 are considered ideal for initial use in the piercing. The diameter of the ring should exceed the distance between the edge of the labia and the piercing by at least 1/16 inch. Sometimes, circular barbells get unscrewed on account of abrasion due to walking. If the user likes pressure or abrasion during sexual intercourse, jewelry having a thicker gauge can be utilized. Thicker gauge jewelry is generally more easy to use and there is less likelihood of pinching or tearing.
