Some may find piercing freaky but for most people it has already become attractive type of body decoration. But we should remember that piercing may also be the way to infect the body and itís important to start proper aftercare as soon as you get it. It is unadvisable to apply any creams, ointments and astringents on new piercing because you may consider it a wound. Semen and saliva as well as other bodily fluids should be kept away from the piercing to avoid developing of infection.
The piercing shouldnít be touched by anyone including you for the first few days.
You shouldnít take the starter jewelry until the piercing is completely healed. If you take it out earlier than inside healing processes are over, you may create a new wound that will be healing much longer once again.
The usage of petroleum jelly may lead to the growth of bacteria. Donít use it as well as you shouldnít use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol to avoid scarring.
Avoid any spicy food if you have pierced your lips or the tongue. If you chew tobacco or smoke, itís also better for you to stop at least the piercing is slightly healed.
Avoid submerging your piercing in water. Cover it with waterproof bandage if you need to stay in water for some time. Avoid contacts with sand, lotions, tanning oils and direct sunlight.
Drink less coffee and avoid drugs.
Donít use spray and cosmetics on and around new piercing.
And donít over clean it- it should be cleaned as many times as your piercer said.
The way you clean your piercing depends on its type but there are some common recommendations on cleaning. Use antiseptic lotion to wash your hands, use a cotton ball and warm water to wipe the dirt around the pierced area. In few days after the piercing procedure, you may rinse it with anti-bacterial soap water. Dry it well with a paper towel. After several weeks or months if you feel no pain on touch, you may rotate the piercing around gently. There are special piercing cleaning and healing solutions that will help the healing process run faster.
